MAPP Leader Certification Training: Florida Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting
Two week training (2 non-consecutive weeks)
MAPP Leader Certification Training prepares child welfare professionals and experienced foster or adoptive parents to use the tools of the Florida MAPP Group Preparation and Selection (GPS) Program to assist prospective foster and adoptive parents in making a mutual decision with an agency regarding fostering and/or adopting. Each candidate for Leader Certification will be expected to practice co-leading a small portion of one of the ten Florida MAPP GPS meetings. Constructive feedback is provided. Materials provided include the Florida MAPP Group Preparation and Selection Program Leaders Guide, Implementation Guide, Prospective Parent Participant Materials, Power Point Presentation, and Video Tape Presentations. When you complete this training you will:
- Have knowledge of the basic tenants and principles of foster care and adoption as a privilege in the state of Florida
- Have an understanding of the skills required for successful application of the 12 core skills needed for approval and mutual selection process for foster and adoptive parents
- Learn a variety of training and facilitation skills to enhance, empower and engage prospective foster and adoptive parents’ experience and appreciation for their role in the lives of children who have experienced abuse, abandonment and neglect
